What You'll Do

Speech-Language Pathologist will work in tandem with surgeons targeting pre-operative diagnostics, post-operative diagnostics and rehabilitation to help restore and improve speech, voice and swallowing following head and neck cancer.

Responsibilities*

  • Treatment of adults with communication and swallowing disorders, with specific focus on disorders of voice.
  • Evaluation of adults and adolescents with communication and swallowing disorders, including specific disorders of voice: Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement (PVFM), post-laryngectomy, as well as cough.
  • Documentation of clinical findings, adhering to regulatory agency and insurance requirements.
  • Education of patients and families regarding communication and swallowing disorders.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan is necessary Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan is necessary.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence a warded by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), or, eligibility to initiate a Clinical Fellowship, is required.
  • Progressively complex experience with the assessment and treatment of speech, resonance, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Previous experience with videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing is desirable.
  • Previous experience with assessment/treatment of PDFM is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
