Job Summary
As one of the areas within the University of Michigan Library, Learning and Teaching (L&T) provides services and partnerships to support the university's learning communities and teaching activities. L&T introduces students to scholarly practices, connecting them more with library sources and services that are aligned with their academic goals as they grow their studies. Librarians, technologists, and staff in this area engage faculty in the exploration of pedagogical and instructional technology development. L&T offers labs, reference services, instruction, and partnerships specifically focused on the integration of Library services and resources with campus learning and teaching programs.
Responsibilities
- Instruction (55%) You will partner with Faculty and Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) to design and provide instruction in small group and large class environments; share expertise in developing active learning materials and "best practices" in teaching undergraduate students. You will partner with colleagues on activities such as orientations, learning communities, summer programs, and other student success programs.
- Ask A Librarian Services (20%) You will provide reference and information services in-person and virtually; participate in the organization and planning of information services such as chat reference and student research consultations.
- Student Engagement (15%) You will collaborate with colleagues to provide services designed to enrich the students' educational experience; work with library colleagues to evaluate current services, recommend, design and implement new services; participate in outreach activities to support undergraduates learning; provide leadership for and contribute to projects as assigned.
- Professional Service (10%) You will participate as a member of University Library committees; participate in professional organizations that support these activities.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile / remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

The anticipated hire date is Spring 2025.
This is a term limited appointment of 2 years.
Appointment is anticipated as an Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Sr. Associate Librarian. Salary and rank are dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The target salary range for this position is $61,000 to $66,000 for the Assistant Librarian Rank, $66,000 - $76,000 for the Associate Librarian rank, and $76,000 - $89,500 for the Sr. Associate Librarian rank.
Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the library's process for librarian promotion and advancement.
