The Biology Department is looking to hire a student to work as a prep attendant to provide assistance with laboratory set up for the Human Anatomy & Physiology labs (BIO 167 and BIO 168) for the Winter 2025 semester. This includes assembling lab kits and setting out various models, handouts, and equipment. The position requires experience using compound microscopes and focusing on various prepared slides. Each position is filled on a per semester basis. The A&P prep attendant reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.
Prep attendants work weekly schedules based on lab availability and will be finalized upon hiring.
Responsibilities*
The primary responsibility of laboratory prep attendants is to set up and tear down models, microscopes, and other supplies necessary for each lab activity.
In addition, all anatomy and physiology prep attendants are expected to:
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Responsibilities*
The primary responsibility of laboratory prep attendants is to set up and tear down models, microscopes, and other supplies necessary for each lab activity.
In addition, all anatomy and physiology prep attendants are expected to:
- Provide suggested updates to lab documents to ensure clarity and effectiveness
- Troubleshoot lab activities as necessary
- Know locations and appropriate usage of all safety equipment
- Follow all departmental safety rules
- Ensure good housekeeping in the lab by doing the following:
- Filling paper towels and soap dispensers
- Wiping tables and benchtops
- Ensuring that models and equipment are stored appropriately
- Reporting any broken equipment/models to the Lab Supervisor
- Assist with inventory of Human A&P labs
- Communicate work schedule with the Lab Supervisor
- Must be a currently enrolled UM-Flint student
- Successful completion of BIO 167 & 168 or equivalent courses
- A demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules
- Knowledge of proper use and handling of compound microscopes
- Recommendation by a Biology laboratory instructor
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
