Faculty Position in 

HEALTH BEHAVIOR AND HEALTH EQUITY 


The Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor level. Individuals will have a doctoral degree in a health-related field such as public health, social work, social policy, urban planning, community psychology or other social science-related fields. The ideal person for the position is capable of teaching at the graduate level, has strong research skills and evidence of a research agenda that focuses on public health, healthcare, or related issues, using a health equity lens. With a start date of August 2025, the candidate must have a PhD by January 1, 2025.  

We seek researchers with strong scholarly credentials and a record or promise of external research funding. The faculty member will be expected to teach in our leading master and doctorate programs, and possibly in the School of Public Health’s undergraduate program. About HBHE: The mission of the Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) is to advance health, reduce preventable illness, and promote health equity through the application of research, teaching, service and practice that promotes health and quality of life within and across diverse population groups.

  • Programs address social and behavioral dynamics to promote health and health equity.  
  • Faculty engage individual, family, social network, community, structural, and policy approaches to health promotion.  
  • Courses integrate theory, research, and practice through case studies, small group discussions, community partnerships and technology.  
  • Research uses multiple approaches and methods to examine basic and intervention research questions and apply findings to program and policy development.
