The Institutional Analysis (IA) department at the University of Michigan-Flint is looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst Associate to support compliance reporting, accreditation efforts, and data-driven decision-making across campus.

Modes of Work
Hybrid:
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes here.

Responsibilities*
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting:
- Help with submission of IPEDS (NCES), HEIDI (Michigan), and other state/federal reports observing deadlines and guidelines.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity in compliance reporting.
- Stay up to date with changing reporting requirements and data standards.
- Coordinate with university departments to provide compliance reporting data.
- Submit data for institutional rankings and guidebook surveys including (i.e. U.S. News & World Report, Princeton Review, College Board).
- Coordinate with university departments to provide accurate institutional data.
- Provide data and reports to support accreditation processes and institutional reviews.
- Help develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards for institutional assessment.
- Help with campus-wide projects focused on student recruitment, success, and retention analytics.
- Work with Faculty and Student Researchers to support collaborative research projects that align with student success and retention.
- Use BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to create interactive dashboards and reports for university departments.
- Extract, clean, and analyze data to identify insights for decision-makers.
- Automate reporting processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual workload.
- Maintain documentation of data definitions, reporting processes, and methodologies.
- Develop SQL queries to extract data from institutional databases.
- Use Python scripts for data manipulation, cleaning, and automation of reporting tasks.
- Ensure data pipelines are efficient, scalable, and aligned with reporting needs.
- Stay informed about new trends in institutional research, BI technologies, and compliance reporting.
- Participate in professional development and attend relevant conferences or training sessions.
- Seek opportunities to enhance technical skills and improve institutional reporting practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Basic knowledge of SQL.
- Basic knowledge of Python programming for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with BI reporting tools (ie. Tableau, Business Objects).
