Job Summary
The Claims Administration Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the Insurance and Claims Administration for the organization, including comprehensive management of the Work Connections and Property and Casualty Programs. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient and compliant claims processing, as well as enhancing customer service and streamlining operations to align with strategic objectives. Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to address complex issues and drive continuous improvement across programs.
Responsibilities*
Leadership and Program Management (70%):
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for Insurance and Claims Administration, ensuring all processes align with organizational goals.
- Manage and support the claims team to deliver efficient and accurate claims handling while maintaining high standards of customer service.
- Evaluate and mitigate risks through comprehensive data analysis and ensure strict adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and refine administrative policies and procedures to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead multidisciplinary conferences, acting as a liaison to resolve complex issues and coordinate with internal departments.
- Oversee financial aspects, including budget development, cost containment, and negotiation with vendors to optimize resources.
- Represent the department to external agencies, making authoritative decisions on administrative policies.
Customer Service Enhancement (20%):
- Identify opportunities to elevate the customer experience by leading complex projects and ensuring timely resolution of operational issues.
- Facilitate effective communication with university leadership and other key stakeholders to ensure transparent information dissemination.
- Spearhead cross-functional initiatives to develop innovative programs and analyze financial structures.
- Conduct comprehensive statistical analysis to generate insights and recommendations for program development.
Supervision and Leadership Development (10%):
- Provide strategic oversight for all claims activities, including emergency response, investigation, and litigation management.
- Establish and maintain high standards for claim and medical case management.
- Audit claim activities to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and compliance requirements.
- Mentor and develop the claims team, fostering a culture of creativity, teamwork, and exceptional performance within the organization.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and/or equivalent combination of experience, certification and education
- 7 years of progressively responsible experience and knowledge of disability management, Workers' Compensation, occupational and non-occupational health services, MIOSHA administration and compliance
- 7 years of progressively responsible experience in property and casualty claims
- 5 years of demonstrated knowledge and skills in leadership, conflict resolution and problem solving
- Demonstrated experience in independent problem solving, presentations, leadership, and coordinating and completing multiple tasks within and across departments to meet changing deadlines
- Strong communication, analytical, multi-tasking and computer skills
- Willingness to work collaboratively to drive excellence in the delivery of customer service, productivity and quality
Desired Qualifications*
- 5 years of relevant work experience with risk management or University of Michigan policies and procedures
- Educational, presentation and program development experience is desired
