Job Summary
Refuse/Recycle Driver
Operate waste and recycling equipment in the collection and disposal of materials to the landfill or MRF. Equipment used includes front load truck, rear load truck, roll-off truck, street sweeping equipment, stake trucks with lift gates, fork lift, backhoe to compact roll-offs, and fork lift attachment. Perform daily truck inspections.
Responsibilities*
Operate front and rear loader refuse/recycling collection trucks, roll off container trucks, vacuum trucks, and street sweepers.
Perform grading, digging, back filling, hauling, hoisting, loading and unloading operations, with power driven equipment.
Clean storm and sanitary sewer systems, window wells, fresh air intakes, and other similar areas using vacuum trucks and related equipment.
Inspect, service, operate, and perform minor repairs on heavy equipment, including heavy duty front-end loaders, front and rear loader refuse/recycling trucks, street sweepers, articulated loaders, and under body blade trucks.
Install, operate, adjust, maintain, and remove various attachments, including blades, buckets, scoops, spreaders, hoists, tampers, jack hammers, and trenchers.
Operate tractor and trailer combinations and low-boy trailers in transporting heavy equipment and materials.
Coordinate the work of laborers or other helpers in such activities as the loading and unloading of equipment and materials, and collection and disposal of refuse and recycled materials.
Maintain records of materials and time expended, and submit reports of needed equipment repairs and replacement.
RELATED DUTIES
Operate tractors, skid and front end loaders, and associated equipment.
Operate snow plows, power booms, and mow equipment.
Operate dump trucks, stake trucks, pickup trucks, and other motor vehicles,
Operate trash/recycle compactors, balers, and other power equipment associated with waste and recyclable collections.
Disconnect, maneuver, and position compactor and bulk collection containers used in waste management and other maintenance activities.
Collect, haul, and dispose of refuse, recyclables, pallets, steel drum containers, animal and other research specimens, construction, demolition, and other waste materials.
Operate power and hand tools, and equipment for lawn care, snow and ice removal, leaf collection, litter removal, and other grounds and maintenance activities.
Clean, wash, disinfect, and deodorize vehicles, containers, equipment, and dock and other locations used in waste management and other maintenance activities.
Required Qualifications*
Michigan Commercial Drivers License, with A or B, and air brake endorsements
DOT Medical Certificate
Physical ability for frequent lifting, twisting, and climbing
Desired Qualifications*
Waste industry experience
Work Schedule
Work schedule: Tuesday thru Saturday, 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Overtime required during student move in/out, football season, and special events.
