Job Summary
To assist the Clinical Nursing Director in planning and management of the Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital patient care services. To provide leadership in the practice of nursing, emphasizing quality patient care, education and research.
To assist in coordinating patient care services consistent with Michigan Medicine mission, values and goals.
Reports directly to the Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital Clinical Nursing Director for Postpartum and the Breastfeeding Lactation Program.
Collaborative / consultative relationship with other health professionals and administrative personnel. Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over nursing and support staff as delegated by the Clinical Nursing Director.

Responsibilities
Clinical Practice :
Maintain clinical competency in the care of the patient populations cared for within Women's Hospital. Maintain significant presence across all treatment areas within Women's, rounding on patients and families, and interfacing with staff, to facilitate patient care excellence and high reliability. Anticipate and respond to patient / family issues and concerns.
Management of Clinical Area :
Operations - Participate in the development and implementation of unit goals and objectives for Women's. Participate in development of unit policy / procedure and patient care standards for Women's. Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements. Interpret and implement the Health System and University policies and procedures and the standards of regulatory agencies. Participate in planning and problem solving of daily Women's Hospital operations, productivity, priorities of patient services, and urgent and emergent care.
Staff - Participate in the selection of candidates for nursing, technical, and clerical positions within Women's Hospital. Provide counseling opportunities for growth and development of staff as well as performance evaluation. Participate in the training of staff to facilitate highly reliable patient care and collaborative teamwork.
Financial - Participate in the monitoring of Women's payroll and commodity expenditures. Provide input into the payroll and commodity budget planning process. Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population, staffing skill mix, and budgetary requirements.
Quality Improvement and Research :
Participate in planning, coordinating and evaluating Women's Hospital quality improvement activities. Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by Women's nursing staff. Promote staff involvement in clinical research. Use lean management and high reliability principles to optimize department operations.

Required Qualifications
Applicant must meet one of the following :
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Associate degree or diploma in Nursing AND a Masters Degree in Nursing
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan
Minimum five (5) years RN experience.
Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) RN experience in a Postpartum setting.
Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). The nursing leadership certification must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), for the list, visithere (https : / / www.nursingworld.org / organizational-programs / magnet / program-tools / accepted-certifications / ) .

Desired Qualifications
Previous supervisory / management experience, including schedule management.
Certification in Maternal Newborn Nursing.
Previous experience supporting breastfeeding / lactating families.
Completion of the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course.
Recent experience in high-risk perinatal nursing.
Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and practice.
NRP certification
Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills / judgment to a variety of situations.
Demonstrated effectiveness in verbal and written communication, including conflict management / resolution.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in meeting project / assignment deadlines and expectations within competing priorities.
Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills / judgment to a variety of situations.
Evidence of continuing education / development in perinatal nursing and / or leadership skills.
Working knowledge of OB-specific quality and safety initiatives
Work Schedule
Hours / Week : 40 hours
Shift : Primarily Days with flexibility to cover needs of the unit, will require weekend on-call responsibility.
Location : Von Voigtlander Women's Birth Center- 9 East. 9 West 9 Central, Triage, OR, PACU
