Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum (LTC) department in the College of Education and Human Development. The overall mission of LTC is to meet critical societal needs through scholarship, education, and service. LTC’s faculty members, many of whom are internationally recognized for their high-impact research, are committed to preparing competent teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers.

Job Description

Mizzou Academy’s Academic Leads provide efficient, constructive feedback to promote student learning while monitoring progress and supporting success. They mentor and guide their content specialist teams and play a key role in the iterative course development process, including content, activities, assignments, and exams. Additionally, they represent Mizzou Academy’s values and mission through their communications and presentations.

This role is a split position with the Department of Learning, Teaching, & Curriculum (LTC) in the College of Education and Human Development. LTCis dedicated to impactful research and preparing culturally competent educators and researchers.

Duties

The percentages are estimates. Depending on our changing school needs, these percentages may ebb and flow. Taking care of current students/courses and responding to your team are always top priorities.

Mizzou Academy: 60% of this position includes the following Mizzou Academy Duties

Communication and Team Support 20%

Primary purpose—represent Mizzou Academy, share content expertise, and equip others to give excellent feedback to students.

  • Represent Mizzou Academy as a thought/instructional leader for division.
  • Answer course and division questions from educational stakeholders.
  • Explain course content and Mizzou Academy processes.
  • Report necessary information to division and admin teams.
  • Encourage teams, note strengths, and share causes for celebration.
  • Take necessary steps to support your instructional team.
  • Develop and refine grading notes for assignments.
  • Collaborate with teams to provide consistent scoring.

Grading 15%

Primary purpose—give feedback and monitor student work across the curriculum.

  • Teach and grade courses in your department.
  • Grade several submissions of an assignment and post samples for instructional specialists to model. Grade during peak submission periods.
  • Grade tricky assignments and re-submissions.

Management of Student Submissions 10%

Primary purpose—provide efficient and constructive feedback to support students’ learning.

  • Monitor and manage the numbers of submissions coming in each day.
  • Work closely with all educational stakeholders, including students, families, learning centers, and schools.
  • Respond to student inquiries.
  • Correct assignment particularities and quiz errors.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop intervention plans for students’ emotional, behavioral, and academic support.

Development 10%

Primary purpose—contribute to the iterative course development process.

  • Collect feedback to guide course rewrites.
  • Meet with the development team to share vision for course alignment and to give holistic feedback on learning in your division.
  • Support the development team with small changes while courses are in progress (e.g. confusing test questions, confusing assignment descriptions, typos, etc.).
  • Adjust courses as needed to ensure that they meet student needs and standards.

Professional Flexibility 5%

We are a fast-moving, creative, vibrant organization. Often, new projects arise. One of our professional expectations is a willingness to jump into these new challenges or other duties as assigned.

LTC: 40% of this position includes the following LTC Duties

Collegiate Instruction 40%

  • Provide instruction for LTC students in social studies or related courses.
  • Collaborate with other course instructors on course design and implementation.
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide feedback to support learning.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctorate in Education by time of application

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On

  • Missouri teaching certification for secondary social studies
  • course-writing experience in social studies courses
  • teaching in either international or intercultural contexts
  • teaching and supporting students in online contexts
  • collegiate instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • supporting educators in their professional development
  • mentoring teachers to provide excellent online feedback and student support, as well as team-building
  • navigating, building courses in, and using feedback tools in the Canvas LMS
