Job Description

The School of Visual Studies (SVS) invites applications for a full time, ranked, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in the Film Studies Production Program at the University of Missouri.

DUTIES: Teaching three courses per semester (6 per academic year) and working with the SVS director and film studies program coordinator to expand film offerings and to strengthen collaborations with local and national production companies, the True/False Film Festival, and other areas of film and digital media production at the University of Missouri. These include the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism, the SVS Digital Storytelling Program, and the IT Program in Entertainment Media. Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film or equivalent degree.

The school seeks a creative filmmaker with a significant record of creative activity and teaching experience in the field. The ideal candidate should be fully conversant with digital production tools and have experience teaching undergraduate courses in two or more areas of video production. Should possess a demonstrated excellence in film production, the ability to engage productively with students at all skill levels, and a commitment to developing a vibrant video production curriculum within the context of a large state university. Capable of teaching introductory through advanced production classes in filmmaking and be able to teach in two or more of these areas: field production, cinematography, directing, audio production, pre- and post-production, screenwriting, and story development.

The School of Visual Studies, including degree programs in Art, Art History, Digital Storytelling and Film Studies, resides in the College of Arts & Science and was launched in 2017 to create a collaborative, interdisciplinary, cutting-edge education that reflects 21st century studio practice and visual culture. SVS offers bachelor of arts (BA), bachelor of fine arts (BFA), master of arts (MA), master of fine arts (MFA), and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees within the four programs.
