Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and the medical education leadership team to optimize student experiences and advance educational initiatives.
- Participate in strategic planning and continuous quality improvement efforts
- Ensure student affairs program alignment with LCME accreditation standards and the institution’s strategic goals.
- Oversee on the Medical Student Health Advisory Committee.
- Serve as the primary contact for students requiring personal, financial, and academic support.
- Oversee career advising and counseling initiatives, including residency application processes and Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) generation.
- Facilitate student meetings such as orientations for M1-M4 years, student town halls, and residency application preparation sessions.
- Supervise student recruitment and admissions process and attend admissions committee meetings as an ex-officio member.
- Monitor student status/progress through the curriculum.
- Support student organizations and interest groups.
- Develop and enforce policies related to student affairs, ensuring timely updates to and timely distribution of the student handbook.
- Oversee learning/testing accommodations and review medical student absences, including leaves of absence.
- Lead student mistreatment training initiatives and respond to student mistreatment reports.
- Lead and oversee significant student events such as White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, Honors and Awards Convocation, and Graduation.
- Ensure student compliance with health insurance and immunization requirements.
- Oversee health and wellness programs, leading twice annual meetings with all Missouri medical schools.
- Supervise Registrar and Financial Aid programs, including personnel supporting student affairs activities.
- Attend senior leadership and curriculum committee meetings.
- Submit an annual budget proposal for student affairs programs.
- Represent MUSOM at regional and national medical education meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A PhD, EdD, MD, or DO degree is required
- A strong record of undergraduate medical education leadership
- Demonstrated experience in delivery and improvement of student affairs programs
- Outstanding communication, listening, and counseling skills
- Skill in assessing students in need and in linking them with appropriate resources
- Ability to serve as a strong student advocate as well as an advocate for the public trust
- Effective team, organizational, and leadership skills
- Energetic and dynamic
- Demonstrated experience in medical school curriculum development and management.
- Experience as a medical school educator.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Knowledge of LCME accreditation standards and medical education regulations.
