The primary purpose of this position is to expand the capacity of the Veterans Clinic by implementing and overseeing the Clinic's discharge upgrade program, helping students, handling case files, submitting timely and complete legal documents to the government from veterans, and interfacing with Veterans Clinic stakeholders. Stakeholders include law school faculty and staff; donors; elected officials; students and the veterans community.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Oversee the Discharge Upgrade Program for the Veterans Clinic, which includes evaluating and implementing the program's policies and procedures
* Responsible for all aspects of the discharge program including supervising students by answering their questions and monitoring their work and teaching discharge upgrades in the Veterans Clinic class
* Represent veterans before Department of Defense Boards and in Federal Courts; monitor all upgrade cases assigned to other attorneys in the clinic
* Represent veterans in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) claims and appeals as assigned by the clinic director; handle all aspects of a VA claim from start to finish; file claims and appeals with VA and in Federal Appellate Courts
* Participate in Open Houses and Meet and Greets with donors, members of General Assembly and other elected officials, and other constituents as needed
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flexibility of hours and remote work possible as approved by the Director of the Clinic
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
Missouri law license or ability to secure Missouri license promptly
Experience in legal researching, writing, and interacting with legal professionals
Prior experience working in a Veterans Clinic as an attorney at a law school
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually based on skills, education, and experience
Grade: GGS 12
