Job Description
The Joint Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing’s Internal Communications team seeks a Strategic Communications Associate to work in support of the creation and execution of integrated communication and marketing strategies that articulate key Campus Facilities projects that impact the campus at-large and further the university's strategic and operational needs.
Working closely with the Associate Director of Internal Communications and other team colleagues, this position helps support communications coordination and advance messaging primarily on behalf of the Offices of Campus Facilities at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
From routine maintenance on published materials to full-scale communication campaigns and amplifying the stories of Campus Facilities staff, this resourceful contributor works toward the team’s mutual success in delivering multi-channel communications plans and creative services to internal partners, as well as effective distribution to target audiences.
Nature of Work
Develops effective marketing and communications strategies, plans, programs, and materials of a specialized and complex nature for a university publication or communications department.
Performs routine assignments using existing procedures, practices, techniques, etc.
Assists in the development and implementation of communications strategies and plans.
Performs a variety of standard assignments and responsibilities and makes recommendations for improvement/efficiency, resourcing, etc., as necessary.
Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems and/or correct standard, routine issues.
Researches and/or analyzes information and uses standard practices to make informed judgments and recommendations.
Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines in accordance with established priorities, timelines, budget, etc.
Exchanges straightforward information, asks questions, and checks for understanding.
Develops working relationships with internal parties and may work with external parties, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Research, develop, and deliver communication materials for a range of audiences based on overall internal communications strategy
Connect and collaborate with colleagues to align messages across channels and address stakeholder needs while considering university culture
Write, edit, and proofread internal communications and work with management to develop and execute communication plans
Develop, update, and maintain website content, programmatic resources, and training materials
Assist in tracking and monitoring communications results and developing programs for continuous improvement
Act as a storyteller for internal audiences to positively impact university culture
Supervision Received
Receives instruction, guidance, and/or direction from more senior level roles
Supervision Exercised
May mentor others in completing communications duties
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Possesses conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within the Communications function.
Applies general knowledge of the organization and communications techniques developed through education and experiences.
Shift
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Some design and photography experience
Two or more years of experience in journalism, communications or public relations
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $21.63-$26.44/hour
