Position Description:
The Student Affairs department at the UMKC School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Academic Advisor (Education Team Coordinator) for Year 1 and 2 students at the Volker campus. The selected candidate will provide a high level of initiative, organization, detail, and service while providing high-quality work in a time-sensitive environment. Additionally, the selected candidate will be student-centered in both philosophy and practice.
Duties include:
- Manage the advising process for Year 1 and 2 students enrolled in the combined BA/MD degree program at the UMKC School of Medicine
- Provide academic and personal guidance to students and connect students with resources in a proactive manner.
- Monitor and update various internal systems to track student coursework and enrollment, academic progress, and general success, utilizing data and technology to improve systems and services.
- Interpret, explain, and enforce School of Medicine and UMKC policy to students and faculty
- Develop, plan, and coordinate summer and fall orientations, the Year 1 welcome ceremony, class meetings and other class events, as part of the larger student affairs team. This will require comfort and ease in speaking in front of large audiences.
- Develop and maintain strong liaisons with others to promote student success. This includes working in partnership with the Year 1 and 2 staff, the larger student affairs team, faculty, Councils, and other departments throughout campus regarding student concerns, curriculum, and advising and administrative activities.
- Other duties as assigned, both scheduled and ad-hoc, as pertinent to department-wide Student Affairs tasks and goals
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related field and three years of experience working within higher education administration is preferred.
Ability to keyboard proficiently and comfortably in working within multiple data systems is necessary
$38,480 - $45,390 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
