Job Description

The UMKC Institute for Human Development, University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (IHD) is an applied research and training center for human services designed to exemplify the University's goals of engaged scholarship and community partnerships. Its functions include interdisciplinary training, applied research, community program development and information dissemination. The CtLC Nexus, housed at UMKC Institute for Human Development, is designed to support the "intersect of Charting the LifeCourse ideas, collaboration and transformation." As the definition of "nexus" implies, it is the central place that connects or links groups, things, and ideas together. The CtLC Nexus provides an infrastructure for stakeholders to engage with a growing network of implementers on the Charting the LifeCourse framework to learn from one another, share stories, and participate in opportunities to build one another's capacity. In addition, the Nexus serves as a research center, partnering with people and organizations who are using CtLC as a lens to enhance and innovate existing resources, training, and practices, and/or to develop new promising practices, resources, trainings, or products. The Nexus then disseminates these innovations, through access to resources and materials, and providing training and technical assistance.

The IHD is seeking an experienced and resourceful leader to become a Program Area Specialist III. This role is highly collaborative and is a key contributor to the successful development and expansion of the Charting the LifeCourse Nexus training, technical assistance and knowledge translation goals. This position will assist with the training and technical assistance on a portfolio of projects related to systems, organizational and practice level changes in education, aging, disability and other social services.

The LifeCourse Program Area Specialist III will:

  • Assist the program team in completing activities that support training and technical assistance projects related projects.
  • Provide training to individuals, families, professionals and organizations to integrate and implement person-centered LifeCourse frameworks and tools and other topics.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of LifeCourse training resources and tools for individuals, families, professionals, and organizations.
  • Organize and support internal and external meetings to accomplish project and program outcomes.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for evaluation and research activities of LifeCourse projects, programs and evidence-based practices.
  • Other duties, as assigned to support program outcomes.

Reporting Structure:

The Program Area Specialist III reports directly to a Sr. Project Coordinator. This position will be housed on UMKC campus. Some travel may be required, depending on contracts and grants.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in social work, human/social services, healthcare management, or public administration.

Demonstrated relevant experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • Some experience and expertise in partnering with professionals, families and community members.
  • Self-driven performance and initiative with strong skills organizing and managing more than one project at a time
  • Experience with developing training and written materials for broad dissemination and use (such as: reports, publications, curriculum, tools/resources for individuals and families)
  • Ability to work well independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed
Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated starting salary of $51,875 annually commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
