What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Scientist position at University of Missouri System?
The Bioinformatics and Analytics Core (BAC) at the University of Missouri is seeking a talented and engaging individual for our Data Scientist opening. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct bioinformatics, data science, statistical analyses and develop computational tools, databases, and quantitative methods for clients of the core.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Genomics and Multi-omics Analyses : Perform bioinformatics analysis in support of scientific research using technical knowledge of software and its implementation in a high-performance computing infrastructure. Perform next generation sequence (NGS) data analysis (bulk RNA-seq, ChiP-seq, scRNAseq, ATAC-seq, HiC-seq etc.) and integrate with data present in publicly available databases.
- Statistical Analyses : Apply and develop algorithms and workflows with embedded statistical methods in standardized and innovative ways that will analyze, integrate, visualize, and interpret a broad variety of data types. Direct and execute computational workflows to analyze large scale data sets and work closely with domain researchers to help them interpret complex results. Test and troubleshoot new cutting-edge methods. The implementation of novel data visualization techniques for various data types is just one example of the many exciting opportunities in this position.
- Software Development : Develop and / or modify software pipelines and tools as needed for high-throughput analyses.
- Training and Workshop Development and Delivery : Participate in the development, design, and delivery of training workshops on data science, bioinformatics, and statistics topics for faculty, staff, and students on campus.
- Data and Database Management : Manage, move, and transform large datasets. Maintain project databases.
- Manuscript and Report Writing : Prepare research reports for clients and assist with preparation and writing of manuscripts for publications and grants for submission.
This is an on-site position with potential for a hybrid remote work component.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biology, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or another STEM field and at least 3 years of prior experience conducting research in data science, and bioinformatics.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range : $61,008 - $85,000 per year
