Position Description

The Assistant Professor of Education is a tenure-track member of the School of Education at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. The faculty member will teach graduate courses to cohorts of students on campus and online. The Professor must display a commitment to educating diverse groups of graduate students. The Professor must demonstrate knowledge of current research in the field of education including assessment and evaluation, collaboration with professionals and diverse families/communities, inclusive practices, effective teaching methods and interventions including positive behavioral approaches. The faculty member demonstrates knowledge of federal, New York State, and local education statutes and policies. Strong collaboration skills and professionalism are essential as this position requires frequent and ongoing communication with full-time and part-time faculty, staff, partner representatives, and graduate students.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach seven (7) courses over a 10-month period in areas of expertise, employing effective teaching strategies tailored to graduate students
  • Deliver graduate-level coursework in both online and in-person formats, with weekend availability required
  • Foster an engaging, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment
  • Maintain an active on-campus presence to support students and faculty
  • Provide academic advisement to student cohorts in partnership programs
  • Participate in and contribute to regular faculty and staff meetings within the School of Education
  • Attend monthly general faculty meetings
  • Support the AAQEP and Middle States accreditation processes by submitting and analyzing assessment data to drive continuous program improvement
  • Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development within the field of expertise
  • Contribute to the mission and strategic goals of both the university and the School of Education
  • Serve on faculty committees and actively participate in university initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the institution's needs


Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or Childhood Education (ABD considered if near completion)
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in PreK-12 settings
  • Experience in higher education instruction using online, hybrid, and multiple modalities, or staff development experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal, New York State, and local education statutes and policies
  • Familiarity with current research and evidence-based practices in education
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with both on-campus and off-campus faculty and staff


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dual Certification in Childhood, Early Childhood, and/or Special Education
  • Teaching experience and certification across multiple grade levels (e.g., childhood, early childhood, adolescent education)
  • Experience teaching both K-12 students and adult learners
  • Proficiency in instructional technology for graduate-level instruction
  • Experience working with diverse learner populations

The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 to $72,000
