Position Summary
The assistant coach will assist the head coach in the administration of all aspects of the sport program including, coaching, recruiting, scheduling, student athlete mentoring and ensuring the program is compliant with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations. This individual will assist with the promotion of the Team, as well as the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coaching related duties: Instruct student athletes in the required skills necessary to compete in the sport. Under the direction of the head coach this individual will conduct skill instruction, motivate student-athletes, and conduct practice sessions under the direction of the Head Coach. This individual is also relied upon to give effective feedback to staff and student-athletes in preparation for, and during, all competitions.
- Administrative duties: Help administer all facets of the Men’s Basketball program. These could include, but are not limited to: planning and organizing practices; reviewing opponent’s game film; preparing scouting reports of future opponents; helping with equipment purchasing, team travel, as well as practice and game scheduling.
- Academic duties: Demonstrate concern for the academic pursuits of the student athletes by adherence to department, university, and NCAA academic policies, as well as initiate and monitor personal academic goals for each individual team member. This includes working closely with the Department of Academic Success to set individual graduation rate goals to ensure that the school meets the NCAA APR/GSR rate for the team.
- Recruiting: Recruit student athletes under the direction of the Head Coach. This will require travel, oral and written communication, record keeping, and good relationship skills.
- Rules and regulations; Study, know and follow all University, Summit League and NCAA policies and procedures.Community: Engage the public, donors and media in support of the Program by attending community functions representing UNO.
