Position Summary
The Assistant Director serves as the supervisor of the VA Benefits Processing team which serves over 900 students each year. The Assistant Director’s team is responsible for certifying all VA benefits and coordinating the state military financial assistance which includes Post 9-11 GI Bill Chapter 33, Chapter 31, Chapter 35 dependents benefits, Nebraska Waiver of Tuition, along with GI Bill Chapters 30 and 1606. This position is the expert on military-connected student debt management, teaming with Cashiering and Student Accounts (CSA) and the Veterans Administration (VA) to improve processes and mitigate the impact of a debt to students. The Assistant Director is a School Certifying Official and supervises two salaried School Certifying Officials and up to four VA Work-Study students. This position ensures compliance with the processing of all VA benefits for new and continuing students to ensure timely payment to UNO and timely payment of housing benefits to students. Resolves escalated student issues as needed. In addition, this position will work directly with the Associate Director, Financial Support & Scholarships, to assist with the management of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) program, including reviewing and making decisions on SAP appeals, collecting appropriate documentation, and helping manage the end of the semester SAP process and notify students of their status.
