Position Summary
Position Overview:
This position will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the educational experience at the HSEC and full compliance with LCME accreditation standards as related to the regional campus and associated educational operations. The individual will collaborate with College of Medicine (COM) and other institutional leaders in continuous improvement of the curriculum and ensure, comparability, scalability and operability of curricular innovations and improvements.
Essential Functions:
This position will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the educational experience at the HSEC and full compliance with LCME accreditation standards as related to the regional campus and associated educational operations. The individual will collaborate with College of Medicine (COM) and other institutional leaders in continuous improvement of the curriculum and ensure, comparability, scalability and operability of curricular innovations and improvements.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate the delivery of the Training the Physicians of Tomorrow (TPT) curriculum at the HSEC under the oversight of the COM Curriculum Committee, with the support of the Regional Associate Dean, Associate Dean for Medical Education, and Office of Medical Education.
- Establish systems of data collection to ensure instructional quality/comparability and compliance with Liaison Committee on Medica Education (LCME) standards.
- Oversee teaching activities of faculty members at the HSEC in cooperation with course and Phase Directors at the Omaha Campus.
- Oversee the development and implementation of extra- and cocurricular activities intended for COM students based at the HSEC.
- Serve as an ex officio member of the COM Curriculum Committee and on other committees as assigned.
- Collaborate with faculty members, staff, and students on relevant educational research projects.
- Oversee activities of COM staff members based at the HSEC.
- Participate in activities of the applicant’s home academic department (based on expertise).
- Participate actively in medical student teaching activities.
Qualifications:
- M.D./M.B.B.S./D.O., Ed.D. or Ph.D. degree (or equivalent)
- A passion for medical education, especially at a rural medical school campus.
- Proficiency in English language skills.
- Accomplishments that would qualify for appointment to the UNMC COM faculty as an assistant, associate, or full professor.
- Experience teaching medical students and familiarity with, and ideally previous participation in the organizational structure and procedures of a COM.
- Knowledge of and preferably experience with addressing the challenges and opportunities of meeting healthcare needs and training physicians to practice in rural communities.
- Excellent communication and team building skills.
