Position Qualification
Position Summary
Coordinates and delivers the library’s research services for research data management, data curation, data visualization, data literacy, and open science. Oversees the continued development of a portfolio to support UNMC researchers. The position liaises with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, UNMC units that support researchers, and researcher teams at UNMC. Provides instruction, literature search, liaison and outreach librarian services.

- Lead the library’s services for research data management and data curation. Create and consult on data management plans and support data curation needs. Assist users with locating datasets, repositories, and open science platforms.
- Assess data curation needs, make recommendations to maximize the value and reuse of the data, and implement these recommendations in collaboration with researchers and library staff. Advise on data documentation strategies and use of metadata schemas.
- Lead development of learning resources and delivery of instruction in research data management and open science topics.
- Functions as a liaison to assigned departments, centers, or other units
- Cultivates partnerships and collaborates with university faculty on projects including teaching, grants, manuscripts, paper, or poster presentations.
- Participates in a team approach to providing prompt and effective reference, consultation, literature search, and instructional services to students, faculty, and staff.
- Develop web-based tutorials, workshops, and classroom programs to promote data literacy, information literacy, and critical evaluation of health sciences information.
II. Research Responsibilities 25%
- Develop and implement strategies, models, and standards for data literacy and open science scholarship.
- Develop and/or peer review new digital tools (software, script, code, datasets) to facilitate the use and reuse of open scientific scholarship and data.
- Expands the knowledge base of the field by engaging in research or creative works associated with the investigation, creation, discovery, understanding, or interpretation of professional knowledge or practice. Prepares and disseminates tangible evidence of these activities.
III. Administration and Service 10%
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for open scholarship and research data services.
- Participates in shared governance of the library.
- Serves on library, UNMC, and NU committees.
- Participates in professional organizations.

Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in research-related field or master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- At least one year of experience as a librarian in an academic or health sciences library.
- Knowledge of current tools, trends, and approaches in data services, including data preservation and curation, visualization, discovery and use of open data sets.
- Knowledge of the research data lifecycle, data management, data sharing practices, and data literacy concepts.
- Familiarity with research tools such as Python, R, SPSS, or STATA and ability to become proficient in additional tools.
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated teaching skills.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with research partners.
- Commitment to demonstrating collegiality and fostering a collaborative, welcoming environment.
