Essential Functions
The Digital Archivist leads initiatives to preserve and provide access to born-digital and digitized archival collections. Leads digital initiatives for Archives and Special Collections by providing a full range of management, preservation, access, and sustainability services for digital archives. Supervises digitization. Contributes to and supports library services through the investigation, implementation, and enhancement of tools and services that assist with research, creativity, scholarship, and engagement. Additionally, the Digital Archivist maintains team-based working relationships with colleagues in the department, library, and the university in addition to fulfilling requirements of faculty status in areas of contributions to librarianship, scholarly activities, and service.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Digital Collections :
- Manages and leads departmental efforts on digital preservation throughout the digital asset lifecycle.
- Manages and leads the implementation, management, and assessment of repository tools for digital collections, which currently include JSTOR, Omeka, OHMS, and other tools and platforms..
- Manages and leads digitization production and workflows while collaborating with colleagues to set and maintain priorities.
- Monitors developments in digital preservation, access, and related initiatives and communicates their implications to library stakeholders.
- Advises on local best practices and institutional policy issues related to digital preservation and collections such as accessibility, sustainability, copyright fair use, and related matters.
- Collaborates with library colleagues on research data services team, including serving as a resource for students and faculty.
