The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Disability Specialist, UNLV Student Wellness, Disability Resource Center [R0146874]
ROLE of the POSITION - Disability Specialist - DRC
The Disability Specialist provides professional case management services to a diverse population of students with disabilities, temporary injuries, and pregnancy attending UNLV. In addition to facilitating in-person student contact, access, and accommodations the disability specialist provides consultation and support to faculty and staff regarding strategies and methods for meeting the unique needs of this student population.
This position focuses time and resources on professional case management services for students with disabilities, those reporting disabilities, and possible future UNLV students who will use DRC services as an essential factor in their college/university attendance decision.

The Disability Resource Center is committed to supporting students with disabilities at UNLV through the appropriate use of advocacy, accommodations, and supportive services to ensure access to campus courses, services, and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-2 years working experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
KNOWLEDGE
Required
  • Working knowledge of ADA/504 and how those laws would translate to academic accommodations.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer/student and personal services. This includes customer/student needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and knowledge of how to work with multiple stakeholders in a large organization.
Preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2009; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations and professionals to ensure that all customers are satisfied with services provided.
SKILLS
Required
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Proficiency in Google suite and ability to master student information systems, other University administrative systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in spoken and written communications. Lead meetings and other interactions with co-workers, supervisors, students, family members, faculty and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct student interviews and gain knowledge about the student’s disability, academic impacts, history of accommodations and academic strengths so that reasonable and effective accommodations can be put in place for each student assigned.
Preferred
  • Experience in education/training faculty and staff about the ADA/504 and the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to disability related challenges.
