Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Library Technician 2, UNLV University Libraries, [R0146862]
ROLE of the POSITION
This position will be scheduled Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This schedule will be flexible to accommodate library hour changes, end of semester hours, special projects or events.
The major purpose of this position is to assist library users at the Lied Library’s Circulation Service Desk and to provide support for circulation services in three branch library locations (Teacher Development and Resources, Architecture Studies, and Music), utilizing a variety of skills. Circulation desk assistance includes providing courteous and professional service to library patrons, resolving problems checking out materials to users, explaining policies, answering questions, and making effective referrals. The incumbent working with their library colleagues will be responsible for fostering a safe work environment through appropriate execution of the Libraries emergency procedures as well as other Libraries policies and procedures for patrons. This position is the primary supervisor of daily operations at the Lied Library Circulation desk.
A second major purpose of this position is hiring, training, scheduling, and mentoring student library assistants who primarily assist at the circulation service desk. This position supervises all student library assistants who are assigned to circulation service desk duties.
Another major purpose of this position is to work in concert with the Stacks Supervisor to coordinate hiring, training, and cross training between the students each supervisor supervises.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution, including one year of technical level work performing duties such as copy cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resource management, and/or organizing, curating and accessing government publications; OR one year of experience as a Library Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

SALARY
Grade 29 Step 1, salary $50,153.76. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
