Job Description

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant / Associate Professor position in the Counselor Education Program to begin August 2025. Responsibilities include conducting research, writing research grants, teaching graduate courses in the counseling core and specialization tracks, advising and serving on graduate committees for master's and doctoral students, contributing to the counselor education program development, leadership, and service, and participating in college and CACREP performance assessment activities. Collegiality and student engagement are valued and expected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited program in counselor education or have entered the counselor education field prior to 2013.
  • The applicant must have training, clinical experience, and / or teaching experience in school counseling, marriage, couple, and family counseling, and / or clinical mental health counseling.
  • The successful candidate should be licensed / credentialed or eligible for licensure in their specialty area (i.e., School Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and / or Clinical Mental Health) and be eligible for licensure in the state of Nevada.
  • Demonstrated engagement within counselor education and counseling professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated research engagement through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at professional conferences, grants and contracts, and, if applicable, doctoral research mentorship.
  • A clearly defined counselor educator identity that aligns with at least one of our specialization areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CACREP accreditation and the 2024 CACREP standards.
  • Interest in program leadership (e.g., program coordination, facilitating program meetings, leading strategic initiatives).
  • Remote / online teaching experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are eligible for school counseling, clinical mental health, or marriage, couple, and family licensure in Nevada and those with supporting expertise of professional involvement.

    Program Information

    The Counselor Education Program is housed in the Department of Human Development, Family Science, and Counseling in the College of Education and Human Development. The mission of the Counselor Education Program is to educate competent, culturally aware, ethical counselors who will provide exceptional services in both public and private settings to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society.
