The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientists for the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) uses extensive knowledge to independently perform high complexity laboratory analytical procedures on blood, body fluids, and samples related to public safety and/or public health investigations. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the technical accuracy, instrument operation, quality control, and result reporting per established policies and procedures. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is accountable to ensure timely and accurate results are reported to the appropriate public health staff and physicians in a courteous and professional manner. Some support tasks will be required to maintain laboratory operations. CLS positions are assigned to one departmental specialty and receiving training in other departmental specialties.

Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist

The Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist (SCLS), in addition to the lower level, SCLS bring greater experience, independence/autonomy and are proficient in multiple departmental specialties.

Required Qualifications

Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Doctorate Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related Experience: Performing highly complex laboratory testing of human samples and clinical regulatory lab requirements; chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related work experience OR

Master's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Doctorate Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related experience: Performing highly complex laboratory testing of human samples and clinical regulatory lab requirements; chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Certification and Licensure

State of Nevada laboratory personnel certification as either a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or as a General Supervisor; or, the ability to obtain such certification within three months of hire

Schedule or Travel Requirements

Weekend and Holiday work is required on a rotation schedule if job assignment warrants.

After hour or call-in work may be required in response to public health emergencies or

significant events.

Scheduling of hours may be changed, as necessary.

Total Compensation

The total compensation package includes a competitive salary, moving allowance (if applicable), a rich retirement plan, health insurance options that include dental and vision, life insurance, long-term disability, thirty (30) days of sick leave provided upon start date and two (2) days of sick leave accrued per full month after the first year of service, two (2) days of annual leave accrued each full month, along with many other benefits.
