The Fish Husbandry Animal Care Technician is a full-time, entry-level position responsible for providing routine care to live vertebrates housed in the Zebrafish Facility, as well as assisting with routine animal husbandry activities at the Marine Science Center. Responsibilities may range from operational to administrative. This position will receive cross-training in the rodent facilities, but the primary focus will be on aquatic species.

Responsibilities
Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in scientific discipline and a general understanding of aquaculture, husbandry, and water chemistry is expected, plus 1 to 2 years of experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Responsibilities
- Perform routine tasks at the ZERF, including daily animal health checks and feedings.
- Perform duties relevant to the maintenance of zebrafish lines being cultivated for classroom activities and research. Provide logistical support for the transport of live animals to classroom and lab settings as needed. Collaborate with Fish Facility Manager to track nursery viability for these activities.
- Perform routine water quality parameter analysis and review for abnormal readings that indicate potential issues at the ZERF.
- Support all ZERF facility sanitation protocols, including tank cleaning, organization of aquaculture components, cleaning and calibrating water quality probes and sensors, and changing system filters.
- Handle basic needs for ZERF facility operation during weekends and holidays as needed. Also provide support for ongoing MSC projects in the absence of student-led research teams due to school breaks and holidays.
- Perform routine checks on husbandry practices, including water quality logs and feeding schedules, at the MSC. Collaborate with MSC research teams to ensure feed schedules are executed and recorded per species specifications and needs.
- Assist with the monitoring of critical systems at the MSC for potential issues and ensure proper reporting mechanisms are in place.
- Provide training support and monitoring for new students joining research projects at the MSC to ensure proper and consistent animal care.
- Work closely with Fish Facility Manager to mitigate and resolve issues with facility operations at the ZERF and the MSC.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Fish biology or aquatic husbandry experience in school or through employment is strongly preferred.
- Prior aquatics experience preferred.
- High degree of mobility and the ability to move containers of 30 lbs.
- Possess the ability to work independently and take individual initiatives.
