Online Writing Lab (OWL) Adjuncts provide online writing consultations, significantly enhancing the quality and accessibility of writing center services. Duties/Responsibilities
Writing Consultations: 40%
- Provide asynchronous, written feedback to undergraduate and graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds.
- Assist students at all stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Provide constructive feedback on writing assignments, focusing on clarity, coherence, organization, grammar, and style.
- Help students develop critical thinking skills and strengthen their ability to articulate effectively in writing.
- Attend staff meetings to enhance tutoring skills and stay updated on best practices in writing pedagogy.
- Stay informed about academic writing conventions, citation styles, and disciplinary expectations across various fields of study.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student interactions using the Online Writing Lab’s appointment scheduling system and department Outlook account.
- Compile feedback reports and summaries to track student progress and assess the effectiveness of tutoring interventions.
- Provide input and feedback to Online Writing Lab Director to support ongoing program assessment and improvement efforts.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong writing skills and proficiency in English language mechanics, grammar, and syntax.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in all student interactions.
- Knowledge of writing process theory, rhetorical principles, and academic writing conventions.
- Prior tutoring, teaching, or mentoring experience.
