Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) is jointly operated by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and Cornell University. SML offers outstanding experiential, place-based education focused on understanding and sustaining our marine environment. Adjunct faculty at SML are experts in their field of study and help inspire the next generation of students towards careers in marine and environmental science and sustainability. All SML programs are infused with in our ethos of responsible natural resource use and management, valuing scientific and community collaboration, and public service.
Adjunct faculty will live and teach in residence at SML, located on Appledore Island, Maine. Employment for this position is being offered within the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering at UNH. This position is contingent on SML meeting course enrollment targets. Decisions to cancel credit courses are at the sole discretion of SML and will be made on a rolling basis. The position is also contingent upon successful completion of a background check process.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve as core academic teaching staff for selected Shoals Marine Laboratory credit course(s).
- Provide lecture and laboratory exercises to accomplish established course objectives.
- Supervise undergraduate and/or high school students during laboratory and field experiences.
- Assess student academic performance and submit final grades at course conclusion.
- When applicable, provide guidance and supervision for up to two teaching assistants.
- PhD or equivalent years of experience in the appropriate field of study
- Prior teaching experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong competency in marine science field methods
- Prior experience living in a remote field environment preferred but not required
