The Biology Department of Valencia Campus is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Biology at UNM Valencia Branch Campus position, which is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. The position begins August 11, 2025. For best consideration, all application documents must be received by April 6, 2025, however, the positions will remain open until filled.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,300 each semester.
Salary: Base salary for nine-month faculty position is $57,000. Summer teaching is possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent package of benefits is provided.
Summary
of duties and responsibilities: Provide 12 credit hours of classroom instruction
during each of fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities include maintaining attendance, scholastic, and student
records, as well as posting and maintaining office hours as per UNM Valencia
Campus policy, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Also, there is
expected participation in college committees, curriculum development
initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related to
teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and
other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities may include participation in
Undergraduate Research initiatives related to current grant awards (as
applicable).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biology or in a closely related field.
- At least two years of experience teaching at a post-secondary institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in Biology or closely related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Evidence of commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
- More than one year experience teaching at a 2-year community college.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of current teaching methodologies in active learning and course-based undergraduate research experiences.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities.

We will offer reimbursement for travel expenses to all candidates who are invited to the UNM Valencia campus, who accept the offer of an interview, and who must incur long-distance travel expenses. The travel reimbursement will follow UNM policy and be no more than $750.
