The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time faculty position as an Assistant Professor in the area of Theoretical Quantum information Science and Quantum Computing. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to conducting research in Quantum Information Science and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the computer engineering area. The tenure-track faculty workload in ECE includes a balance of research, teaching and service to the department, school, and university.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in computer engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to research and teaching excellence in the broad computer engineering area, with emphasis in theoretical Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computing. Primary areas of interest should include quantum information theory; the interface between quantum information and engineering; quantum computer science and algorithms; quantum control and open quantum systems; quantum error correction; and quantum benchmarking and validation. Other topics of interest include quantum simulation; quantum complexity theory; application of QIS to problems in optimization and statistical machine learning; quantum architecture and software co-design; and mathematical foundations of QIS. Applicants should also demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is committed to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education offering BS (ABET accredited), MS and PhD degree programs. A team of 27 full-time faculty, and several research and part-time faculty, support the activities of approximately 300 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Computer Engineering or a closely-related field by the start date of the appointment.

- Demonstrated commitment to research excellence
- Demonstrated publication record in Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computing and/or related fields
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Computer Engineering and related fields
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
