Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship serves as the senior research administrator for the University of New Mexico College of Nursing. The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship will lead the expansion of the College’s research programs and infrastructure, facilitating and inspiring research and scholarship across the College of Nursing in grant writing, building and managing core research infrastructure, representing the College to internal and external constituencies interested in research and positioning the college to capitalize on innovative funding opportunities. The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship serves on the Dean’s Executive Leadership Team and will reside in the Albuquerque, NM, area.

· Leading People: This core qualification involves the ability to lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. The tenets of this qualification include but are not limited to conflict management, leveraging diversity, developing others and building high performance teams.

· Results Driven: This core qualification involves the ability to meet organizational goals and internal and external stakeholders’ expectations. Inherent to this core qualification is the ability to make decisions that produce high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. Lead quality improvement processes related to academic affairs. The tenets of this qualification include but are not limited to accountability, customer service, decisiveness, entrepreneurship, problem solving and technical credibility.

· Business Acumen: This core qualification involves the ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically. The tenets of this qualification include but are not limited to financial management, human capital management and technology management. Knowledge and application of best and future business practices and tools.

· Governance Reporting: This involves the submission of quarterly reports & projections to include: future proposals and goals; goal attainment with status of various research and scholarship related metrics such as intra and extramural funding, publications, grant submissions, funded grants, and dissemination of research and scholarship at the local, regional, national and international levels. Leads in short- and long-range strategic planning with development of operational plans to effect goal achievement. Collects and analyzes data related to organizational outcomes, program effectiveness, and other key metrics. Uses assessment data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendationschange.

Overarching responsibilities include:

  • · Strategic visioning for developing research initiatives
  • · Facilitating strong collaborations within all College of Nursing programs and across the University of New Mexico as well as external agencies as appropriate
  • · Securing intra and extramural funding related to research and scholarship
  • · Supervising tenured/tenure track faculty
  • · Articulating a compelling, inclusive vision for the future of research and scholarship in nursing science
  • · Demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset to pursue diverse external funding sources in the expansion of the research mission. Navigating nimbly among traditional research and scholarship opportunities (e.g., NIH, NINR, HRSA, private industry, etc.) and emerging funding sources
  • · Ensuring that all College of Nursing research and scholarship activities are compliant with College, University, federal and state policies and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD
  • Established program of research with record of extramural funding from NIH, NSF, CDC, or AHRQ
  • Record of data-based, peer reviewed publications related to a program of research
  • Experience supporting and mentoring faculty in developing programs of research, securing funding, and publishing in high-impact journals in addition to encouraging collaborative and interdisciplinary research that includes students.
  • Experience teaching PhD students and mentoring PhD students in dissertations, grant proposals, and publishing
  • Eligible for rank of Tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor
  • Record of progressive leadership and development while overseeing major academic or research programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work related experience in an academic health sciences center
  • Experience teaching and mentoring DNP or other practice-focused graduate students in scholarship, grant proposals and publishing
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentorship and development of faculty in research, scholarship, extramural funding, and publishing
  • Ability to mentor faculty who are focused on basic, clinical, and social science research
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate strong collaborations within the College of Nursing, across a Health Sciences campus and university
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
