Position Summary | The University of New Mexico Schoolof Engineering (SOE) has an opening for a Director of Integrative Engineeringat the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This position is a full-time, 9-month,faculty position. The desired start date is August 2025. The faculty member will holdtenure in one of SOE’s six departments and develop and grow a bachelor’sprogram in Integrative Engineering (pending state approval) as well as anintegrative approach to our First-Year Engineering academic curriculum, workingclosely with all departments and our Engineering Student Success Center. The IntegrativeEngineering bachelor’s program is envisioned as a flexible, convergent,transdisciplinary degree rooted in engineering, centered around design, andreaching toward other disciplines that pique students’ interest, from managementto the arts and much more. We have already developed and piloted atransdisciplinary, project-based, first-year engineering course, which weintend to expand, providing a common, integrative first-year experience thatengages, prepares, and retains students within the School of Engineering.Additional course offerings for first-year students may include those focusedon engineering applications of mathematics; programming, data, and AI; anddesign challenges in a variety of disciplines that address the great problemsof our day, from climate and the energy transition to engineering in worldhealth.
