The College of Population Health (COPH) at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center, serves New Mexico’s communities, government and non-profit agencies, businesses and health–related organizations. The College and Health Sciences Center have deep connections to our diverse Native, Latino/Hispanic and African American communities, with missions to improve the health and health equity of low income, underrepresented minority, and other vulnerable populations. The COPH houses three education programs: the Bachelor of Science in Population Health (BSPH), the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the newly created PhD in Health Equity Sciences.
The COPH is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to join our team. The ideal team member must be knowledgeable in financial reporting that promotes business insights for data-driven decisions.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:
- Key contributor for monthly financial preparation and reporting, annual budgeting and forecasting; provide analytical support by evaluating financial results and variances and identifying trends.
- Evaluating costs for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness per CFR 200. Review procurement requests for adherence to University’s policies and procedures.
- Prepare complex journal vouchers, budget and correcting entries, labor redistributions, EPAFs
- Develop, interpret, analyze, and present financial and operational data and make recommendations at a level understood by intended audiences such as executive leadership, financial and clinical directors, and colleagues.
- Work in a team environment, be flexible and adaptable to changes in assignments and the work environment, work independently, manage time efficiently and multi-task effectively.
- Collaborate with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of business and technical experience and maintain good working relations.
- Support the Fiscal department in the process improvement and development of tools and standard operating procedures required for college operations and contract administration to perform accounting related functions; serve as a resource and educator for other fiscal staff.
- Monitor, evaluate and resolve data standardization; assist with control and regulatory compliance functions.
- Participate in special projects, such as system implementations and enhancements.
- Provide ad hoc reporting and analytical support to the management of UNM, HSC, and state agencies.

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Extensive experience with fund accounting in higher education
- Extensive experience with Banner, LoboMart, and Chrome River
- Experience approving a high volume of financial transactions including but not limited to Chrome River reports, journal vouchers, requisitions, EPAFs, and purchase orders
- Demonstrated experience with the University Budget Development process (Budget Developer and Salary Planner)
- UNM required reporting experience including submission of UNM Categorization of Reserves and mid-year/5-year projections to executive leadership
- Ability to or experience in advising Dean’s, Directors, and staff leadership on complex accounting concepts and issues effectively as well as the ability to make high level decisions
- Experience performing high volume of account reconciliations and developing multi-year forecasts and spending plans within uniform guidelines and other applicable policies and procedures
- Extensive experience with Excel
- High level analysis, fiscal reports and presentations to executive leadership and boards
