University College will hire two Lecturers to teach courses in the Academic Communities Program and Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies Program (LAIS) beginning in the Fall semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. We are seeking two motivated faculty members to engage in problem-solving, curriculum design, technology implementation, and student support. The ideal candidates will be able to teach college success courses within the Academic Communities Program as well as other courses that contribute to both programs, possibly Foundational Math or LAIS courses such as the introduction to integrative studies, experiential learning, capstone independent study, and interdisciplinary theory and practice. The Lecturers will report to the Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Development in University College. The initial one-year appointment of this position begins August 11, 2025, with possible renewals.

The Academic Communities Program serves a diverse group of students with an emphasis on supporting students' first-year transition into university life. The program provides community-based classes dedicated to helping first-year students develop:
* Academic and social community
* A sense of engagement in their education
* The skills necessary for academic success
* An understanding of the culture of higher education
* Connections to UNM resources and support systems
* Close relationships with University faculty and staff
The program also houses Foundational Math, which is designed to help students develop foundational skills related to mathematics, problem-solving, and self-directed learning. The class, taught by instructors from a range of backgrounds, sets students up for success at UNM in more advanced STEM classes.

The Liberal Arts & Integrative Studies (LAIS) program is ideal for students with academic and career aspirations that benefit from study across multiple academic subjects. Historically, the BA in LAIS has attracted many students who feel restricted by the specialized nature of traditional degree programs and want to combine two, three, or more academic disciplines. Other students, particularly those returning to the university after years away, or those with full-time jobs, choose this degree because it has more flexibility to combine courses into themed concentrations. It is self-designed by each student to meet very specific academic or career goals.

The primary duties associated with this position will include:
1. Teach up to 8 courses (24 credit hours) per year in the Academic Communities program and/or in the Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies program.
2. Coordinate learning software, learning management system master shell, and other course materials.
3. Serve as team member on policy and other committees.
4. Support and guide faculty in curriculum design, classroom management, lesson planning, grading, and other aspects of teaching.
5. Lead and/or assist with public presentations, community engagement, and meetings with campus and community partners.
6. Assist administration with student outreach and engagement efforts.
7. Assist administration with department assessment.
8. Assist in evaluating student work for the Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies program, such as plans of study, degree essays, and final portfolio.
