The University of New Mexico is seeking
faculty at the Open Rank level in the Clinician Educator track to join the
Department of Dental Medicine, Division of Dental Services. The Department of
Dental Medicine has a primary mission of delivering education and a full
spectrum of clinical care.
The Department
of Dental Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in
Albuquerque is looking for a full-time Open
Rank - Special Needs Dentist to provide and oversee direct dental
diagnosis, treatment, procedures, and care for patients with Special Needs in a
public health setting. The ideal candidate should be comfortable providing care
to special needs patients. The dentist should have current experience with
general dentistry including comfort with routine and uncomplicated surgical
extractions. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience working with
and supervising dental residents. This is a clinician educator track open rank position which affords
applicants the opportunity to enter as an Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor and educator who is primarily engaged in clinical care with
residents. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of
faculty providing the delivery of education, surgical services, clinical care,
and research.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct clinical care (adults and children)
- Provide direct clinical care to patients with special needs in a clinical setting
- Perform Surgical and Third Molar Extractions appropriate for a general dentist.
- Work in dental clinic and/or OR setting
- Provide resident didactic and clinical training

Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine
- At least 1 year of directly related experience completing dental treatments to patients with Special Needs
- Licensure or ability to obtain licensure from New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the practice of the full scope general dentistry
- Experience working with dental residents
- Demonstrated skills for implants and complicated surgical extractions
- Some experience with hospital dentistry
- Niche interest or experience in general dentistry - implants, surgery, restoration, special needs etc.
- Completion of an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program or equivalent from a Commission on Dental Accreditation institution
- Certification by either the American Board of Oral Medicine or American Board of Special Care Dentistry
