Position Summary | The University of New Mexico (UNM)School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncologyis seeking a full-time academic breast surgeon to join our Breast SurgeryProgram. This position is beingrecruited at the Open Rank level; salary and rank commensurate withqualifications and experience.
The UNM Division of Surgical Oncologycurrently consists of fellowship-trained surgical oncologists, breast surgeons,and colorectal surgeons who provide multidisciplinary care of patients with afull spectrum of malignancies. Additionally, our division includes plasticsurgeons dedicated to breast reconstruction. Surgeons in our group are actively engaged incancer clinical trials and undergraduate as well as graduate medical education,including fellows in Complex General Surgical Oncology. The UNM Department of Surgery boasts a robustinfrastructure of services and resources to help achieve academic goals, andleadership opportunities are available.
UNM serves a large, medically complexpopulation and is a consultative resource for the State of New Mexico and theFour Corners region of the Southwest. Outpatient oncology services are providedthrough the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), theonly National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mileradius. UNMCCC is one of only 57 cancercenters in the nation to be designated by the NCI as a comprehensive cancercenter, the highest federal designation and rating for cancer centers. The 134 oncology physicians, 122 cancerresearch scientists, and staff are particularly focused on discovering thecauses and the cures for cancers that disproportionately affect the people ofthe American Southwest - primarily Hispanic, American Indian, and Non-HispanicWhite - with strikingly different patterns of cancer incidence, mortality anddisparity.
The UNM Health Science Center (HSC)is the largest academic health complex in the State of New Mexico. Located on the University of New Mexico campusin beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combines its four mission areas -educations, research, patient care and community outreach - to provide NewMexicans with the highest level of health care.
New Mexico is known as the Land ofEnchantment; the City of Albuquerque is a beautiful city with mountains to theeast and a mesa to the west. Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications for Position:
- Medical Doctor or equivalent
- Board-certified/board-eligible inGeneral Surgery
- Completion of an accredited breastsurgery fellowship
- Eligible for State of New MexicoMedical License
- Eligible for State of New Mexico ofBoard of Pharmacy certification
- Eligible for federal DEA registration
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications forPosition:
- Current or prior academic rank ofAssociate Professor or Professor
- Five or more years of post-fellowshipexperience in breast surgery
- A demonstrated commitment todiversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working withbroadly diverse communities
