This course introduces the theory and fundamental principles of public speaking, emphasizing audience analysis, reasoning, the use of evidence, and effective delivery. Students will study principles of communication theory and rhetoric and apply them in the analysis, preparation and presentation of speeches, including informative, persuasive, and impromptu speeches.
Meets New Mexico General Education Curriculum Area 1: Communication.
We propose a base salary of $1,017.60 to $1,100.63 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ qualifications. This posting is for both face to face and remote delivery of courses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach. Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield in which they teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly community college experience.
- Experience with learner centered instructional practices.
- Experience differentiating instruction for a multi-level classroom
- Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.
- Successful experience in practice or field work (if applicable).
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
