The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a Visiting
Lecturer I or II in Cosmetology/Barbering. We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of New
Mexico and serve approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque,
UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation,
Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. The
city of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an
abundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinary
cultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.
UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100 full time and part-time faculty members. We are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associate degrees, selected Bachelor's degrees, Career Technical Education certificate programs, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personal enrichment courses. UNM-Gallup serves multiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full-time course load in the area of Cosmetology/Barbering, maintain an active service record (as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate in monthly Division meetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Cosmetology License through the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists
- Three years full-time work experience as a cosmetologist or barber
Preferred Qualifications:
- Instructor's/Teaching licenses through the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
- Two years demonstration experience teaching cosmetology and/or barbering in an educational setting.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
