Description

This position oversees library information and discovery systems, as well as other specialized library systems, in a highly-collaborative environment. Primary responsibilities include managing, configuring, maintaining, implementing, and troubleshooting the library's systems and website to ensure optimal performance, as well as serving as the primary liaison to technology vendors and the campus IT department. This role works within a highly collaborative environment and requires the ability to communicate well with library staff to enhance and improve library technology, and to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Strong project management skills and a deep understanding of library technology requirements and patron needs are essential, as is the ability to identify opportunities for improvement. Success in this role includes a commitment to innovation, adaptability, effective problem-solving, and excellent communication skills. Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM. During major installations or special projects, hours may vary to meet organizational needs.

Essential Job Duties

  • Manage and support the primary library information and discovery systems, such as the integrated library system (ILS) and authentication software, ensuring their effective operation within a collaborative environment.
  • Provide broad support for all aspects of other systems, software, applications, tools, and technology used by the library, ensuring their optimal performance.
  • Manage and maintain the library's web presence, ensuring accessibility, usability, and up-to-date content that effectively supports library services and user needs.
  • Manage storage and long-term preservation of digital collections.
  • Facilitate clear, timely communication and efficiently resolve issues, thereby providing high-quality support to library staff, users, and the university community.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of library technology requirements and patron needs, identifying and recommending, as appropriate, opportunities for improvement to enhance user services through research, testing, development and implementation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to technology vendors and the campus IT department, coordinating efforts to support and enhance library technologies.
  • Create custom queries and reports using MySQL or other comparable tools to support analytics, metadata maintenance, and special projects.
  • Provide training and updates, as needed, to library staff to ensure efficient and effective use of library systems, software, and other technology tools.
  • Develop and document internal procedures and processes.
  • Participate in user groups and communities to stay informed about products and to aid in the management and support of library systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required;
  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program or advanced degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred;
  • Two years of successful library technology experience supporting library software applications, such as integrated library system, library services platform, institutional repository, etc. is preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Comprehensive understanding of integrated library systems (ILS) and discovery tools to manage and support library technologies effectively;
  • Familiarity with various specialized technologies used in library settings, such as digital repositories, electronic resource management systems, and cataloging software;
  • Solid grasp of IT concepts, including system configuration, maintenance, implementation, and troubleshooting, to ensure optimal performance of library systems and websites;
  • Knowledge of technology standards and protocols such as Z39.50, XML, and OAI / PMH, as well as some scripting and programming languages;
  • Familiarity with metadata standards and practices;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technology vendors and campus IT department to coordinate support and enhancements;
  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues promptly and develop effective solutions, maintaining high-quality support for library staff, users, and the university community;
  • Capability to oversee multiple projects, manage timelines, and adapt to changing priorities, especially during major installations or special projects;
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment, fostering teamwork and shared problem-solving;
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours during major installations or special projects and provide on-call support during nights and weekends as needed;
  • Capability to stay informed about emerging library technologies and best practices to identify opportunities for improvement and implement innovative solutions;
  • Demonstrate a commitment and willingness to acquiring training and specialized skills as necessary to effectively perform duties and tasks at the highest level;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical staff and facilitate collaboration;
  • Strong sense of self-direction and initiative, with the ability to independently prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and take proactive steps to achieve goals with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to interact effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

    UNA provides all eligible employees with basic life insurance at no cost to the employee. The basic life coverage level is 1.5 times the covered employee's annual base salary with a maximum benefit of $400,000. Included with your basic life coverage is Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at 3 times the covered employee's annual salary. The provider for this coverage is As a member of the , eligible employees have life benefits available through the TRS. Also, for eligible active employees, a death benefit of the payment of accrued sick leave is paid to the employee's beneficiary by the University.

    This coverage provides benefits after a 90-day period of disability. The monthly benefit is 60% of the covered employee's monthly base salary not to exceed $10,000 per month. The cost for this benefit is paid in full by the University for eligible employees and the provider for this coverage is

    Retirement Plans

    The is a defined benefit plan in which participation is mandatory for eligible employees. Eligible employees are categorized by the TRS as Tier I or Tier II members.

    Paid Time Off

  • Annual leave is accrued for each hour worked. During the first 2 years of employment, the accrual is 10 workdays. After completion of 2 years of continuous service, eligible employees are entitled to 12 days of annual leave and, for each additional year of service, annual leave is increased by one day per year to a maximum of 20 days after 10 years.
  • Full-time regular staff members are entitled to 96 work hours (12 workdays) of sick leave each year at the employee's regular rate of pay regardless of length of service.
