Position Summary | The Accessibility Specialist reports to the Director of the Office of Accessibility and is essential to the overall day-to-day operations of the office. The incumbent plans and facilitates the implementation of appropriate accommodations, auxiliary aids and support services for students with documented disabilities. The Accessibility Specialist works closely with students, staff, and faculty to ensure equal access to University courses, programs, and activities for students with disabilities. This position is based in-person at UNC Asheville. The Accessibility Specialist must maintain the highest ethical standards and professionalism and ensure strict confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with state and federal laws. The incumbent must possess exceptional administrative and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy as well as a strong written and verbal communication skills. In addition, the Accessibility Specialist must have the ability to work with diverse populations and build and maintain positive rapport with all campus constituencies. The incumbent must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and G-Suite and adaptive technical equipment and applications such as voice-to-text software, Read and Write, "smart pens", screen readers, others as needed. |

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills | Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills | At least 2 to 3 years working with adolescents and adults with disabilities, preferably in higher education. Working knowledge of the ADA and ADA-AA, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act; the Fair Housing Act; familiar with US Dept. of Education Office for Civil Rights regulations; WCAG 2.2; and FERPA. Prior experience in case management applications, such as Accessibility Information Management (AIM) is a plus. Knowledge of WordPress also a plus. |
Work Schedule and Hours | Typical hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Occasional early morning hours and/or hours on evenings and weekends as needed to meet the needs of the department, especially during busy times of the year. |
