Established in 1985 by Frank Hawkins Kenan, the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is a nonpartisan business policy think tank affiliated with the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The nonprofit institute and its affiliated centers convene leaders from the private sector, academic community and government to build a greater understanding of how entrepreneurship, economic development and global commerce can work for the public good. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
This role reports directly to the external affairs director and combines marketing and communications, press relations, content creation, oversight of external vendors and contractors and project management support. Specifically, this position will require a self-starter responsible for drafting and editing written content for print and digital, developing and implementing a press relations strategy for the institute, and project management within and beyond the external affairs team.
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
This job requires outstanding communication skills (written and verbal)-including fluency in writing and editing to adhere to AP Style-as well as strong time management. It also requires highly motivated, results-oriented individual with a collaborative mindset but an independent work ethic. Other requirements include exceptional organizational skills, management experience, team-orientation, agility and project management experience.
Prior experience either as a journalist or in press relations is strongly preferred.
