Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Enrollment includes about 1,000 undergraduates and 130 graduate students in addition to professional development and distance education students. Position Summary
This position may be eligible for hybrid work location schedule. Employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Hussman School of Journalism and Media invites applications for a full-time permanent Graduate Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the activities of the graduate program and support the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, as well as each of the graduate program academic directors and the Assistant Director of Graduate Studies. This position is responsible for overall correspondence with current students throughout the year. The Graduate Program Coordinator tracks and manages the degree progress of graduate students including dissertation/thesis/capstone project timelines, degree paperwork, and graduation checkout. The incumbent will manage admissions and registration for all graduate programs and participate in the planning and conducting of in-person and virtual recruitment events. This position is expected to advise students, faculty, and staff on admission, registration, drop/add withdrawal procedures, graduation clearance, and other Graduate School policies and procedures. The Graduate Program Coordinator acts as a liaison to the School’s Director of Academic Advising and Student Engagement and The Graduate School. This position is also responsible for tracking and coordinating graduate scholarships / awards / assistantships and tuition / fee payments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position requires a very high level of accuracy. The disseminated information regarding policy and procedure must be accurate, as must be any advice offered to students, faculty, staff and administrators. The substantial information / data management responsibilities of this job require an eye for detail and a working knowledge of related software (MS Word and Excel). The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, be self-directed and demonstrate the ability to provide excellent customer service to all clients. Ability to proactively and independently troubleshoot issues that may become potential problems is also required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Program management experience and knowledge of university programs, services, policies and procedures is highly preferred. University systems experience such as ConnectCarolina, Canvas, and Slate is preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
