Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Medicine Information Technology (IT) Office provides centralized computer support and information system support for the School of Medicine community, from medical students to faculty to administrative staff. Services include central help desk and desktop support; administrative and clinical application support; novel application development and database hosting; research IT and data science initiatives; infrastructure services including physical, virtual, and cloud provisioning; physical networking installation and management; and web development. Additional services include managing the School of Medicine official web presence; classroom video recording and streaming systems; video production and editing; video conferencing; and digital signage.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to support the installation, management, and troubleshooting of the data network within the School of Medicine including physical cabling, network electronics, configuration changes, documentation, and consultation. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Operations and coordinates activities with the Network Analyst. This position will also maintain a strong working relationship with ITS Communications Technology staff and partner with them to execute high level networking projects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associates Degree in Electronics, Networking Technology or a closely related degree;
Graduation from high school and two years of networking related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated experience with cable installation, termination, and troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Demonstrated experience with structured cabling practices including cable installation, termination, and troubleshooting
- Documented experience with ISO network model
- State of North Carolina Driver’s License (or equivalent) to operate van
- Network certification such as CompTIA Network
- 6 months plus experience with network technologies (VLANs, VoIP, AVoIP, Switch configuration)
- Experience with ITSM tools such as Remedy or ServiceNow

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Incumbent must be able to work above ceiling tiles, pull cables over long runs, install networking electronics in telecom racks, and move up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
