Position Summary
This position will serve as a Research Resource Officer within the Dr. Joseph Muenzer MPS Research & Treatment Center (Muenzer MPS Center) in the Division of Genetics and Metabolism, Department of Pediatrics.
The Muenzer MPS Center is focused on improving the outcomes of individuals with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and their families and developing new treatments. The Muenzer MPS Center team is dedicated to developing new treatments for children and adults with MPS, a group of ultra rare genetic disorders, including clinical trials to test new forms of intravenous enzyme replacement therapy as well as alternative therapies, such as gene therapy and intrathecal drug delivery devices.
The Muenzer MPS Center (Director Dr. Joseph Muenzer) offers an exciting opportunity for a Research Resource Officer to become an integral part of this fast growing and successful team. This individual will work directly with PI’s (Dr. Joseph Muenzer and Dr. Elizabeth Jalazo) and with the MPS Clinical Research Director (Lindsay Torrice, CPNP) on our clinical trials delivering novel therapeutics to children/adults with MPS and other lysosomal storage disorders. This is a highly rewarding job working with our interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team of physicians, advanced practice providers, research staff and dedicated health professionals, who love working with children and adults with rare genetic disorders and are dedicated or improving their health and quality of life.
This position also offers flexibility with a combination of on-site (at our offices in Chapel Hill, NC) and remote work. This position will 1) monitor and manage the comprehensive funding portfolio which supports the research infrastructure of the MPS Center 2) work with MPS Center leadership to develop relationships with key stakeholders to expand research opportunities; 3) work with research faculty and staff to develop comprehensive budgeting strategies for new clinical studies; 4) develop systems to manage and track research expenses to maximize sponsor invoicing; 5) participate in regulatory and compliance activities for the MPS Center; 6) contribute to research quality improvement activities within the MPS Center.
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences as well as build relationships with a variety of constituents (e.g., industry and government funding representatives, research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff).
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated leadership experience and strong organizational and management skills.
Ability to identify needs and develop and implement improvements.
Candidate must demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple competing responsibilities effectively.
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience with clinical research projects, UNC financial and research systems, preparation of regulatory submissions and interacting with local and central IRBs. Additionally recent experience in a large diverse clinical academic setting is preferred.
