Position Summary | The Research Technician will be required to run procedures, tests and analyses within labs in the Division of Hematology. The individual in this position will be responsible for running in vitro assays (adhesion assays, permeability assay, cell integrity assay, etc) using endothelial cells and leukemia cells. They will be performing ELISAs or protein activity assays of human and mouse plasma proteins, as well as some molecular biology work. They will also perform in vivo experiment (leukemic mice). For all work in the lab, the employee will be expected to use safe techniques in handling human blood including proper disposal and other safety measures as mandated by OSHA regulations. The employee will be expected to analyze data under the supervision of senior researchers. The employee will be expected to organize their data clearly for interpretation by a senior researcher. The employee will be assisting other laboratory personnel in disposing of waste according to OSHA guidelines. This position will also be involved in routine laboratory maintenance. In addition, the employee will be asked to do some tissue culture work to maintain existing cell lines. In this work, the employee will be expected to use sterile techniques to maintain sensitive cell lines. The employee will be expected to note cell growth and health outside of normal parameters and report any abnormalities. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Organizing and maintaining labs, as well as assisting lab members with their experiments and running experiments independently. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Previous experience in a research laboratory. |
