Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a non-tenure track, 9-month, full-time position, as Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor in Biological Sciences with an expected start date of August 11, 2025. The position includes responsibilities for teaching lecture courses in the area of specialty and coordinating labs. The successful candidate will be expected to teach General Biology lectures and, on a rotating basis, coordinate the General Biology 1 laboratory, which focuses on basic cell and molecular biology. Preferably, the candidate will also coordinate the Ecology laboratory. Laboratory coordination entails overseeing the curriculum and managing graduate teaching assistants. In addition to these responsibilities, the successful applicant will teach biology courses within their area of specialization.

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The applicant will possess a M.S. or Ph.D. in an area of the Biological Sciences or related discipline, a demonstrated history of employing best practices in classroom pedagogy, and a strong commitment to fostering the success of students with varying learning styles and academic backgrounds
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Desired qualifications include experience with large lecture courses, knowledge of lab safety practices as well as biological laboratory techniques and experience with the development of laboratory exercises, the ability to supervise undergraduate students, as well as previous experience in training and coordinating graduate teaching assistants.

The department supports BA, BS, graduate certificate, MS, and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students and prides itself on student hands-on training. Currently, the department is home to over a thousand undergraduate biology majors and 80 graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Biological Sciences, through participation in the development/implementation of undergraduate and graduate curricula.

departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Optical
