Primary Purpose of Department
The Niblock Student Center is a comprehensive student services office that provides advising, coaching, programming, and events to facilitate academic planning, career development, and professional growth for undergraduate business students. The professional development (PD) team is one of two teams housed within the Center. The PD team promotes skill development through experiential learning, creates and delivers professional development courses and programming, and engages students with industry. The Niblock Student Center operates within Undergraduate Programs in the Belk College of Business. Accredited by AACSB International, the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte offers outstanding business education programs in a variety of disciplines. The college has nearly 4,000 undergraduate students, 800 graduate students and over 90 full-time faculty members. The Belk College is one of the largest business programs in the Carolinas.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Professional Development & Student Experience Program Manager will advance the Niblock Student Center mission through implementation of career and professional development programming and employer relations strategies in an effort to help undergraduate students best plan and prepare for a full-time career post graduation and connect them with employment resources.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • Create and execute quality career and professional development programming that results in the acquisition of professional competencies and engages students in the business profession, equips students to translate classroom knowledge into job-ready skills and behaviors that are desired by employers, and promotes experiential education, including internship for academic credit and study abroad.
  • Provide classroom instruction for the Honors section of BUSN 1101, Introduction to Business & Professional Development, and required Honors courses including BUSN1701 (Corporate Citizenship), BUSN 2701 (Professionalism & Service), BUSN2702 (Leadership & Group Dynamics).
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and marketing outreach activities that attract, target, and admit high school seniors, transfer students, and current students, into honors programs.
  • Manage productive relationships with employers, alumni, and the campus community for the purpose of strengthening internship opportunities and pipelines for entry-level work, as well as monitor hiring trends and employer needs.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments and perform other outreach related to the Center's mission.
  • Assist in assessing program activities, monitoring student progress, report learning outcomes, and contribute to the timely and accurate collection of data.
  • Actively participate in unit activities and events and collaborate with Honors faculty and staff and with Center staff to achieve goals supporting BHP and BSP, the PD team and the Center mission.
Minimum Education/Experience
A Master's degree in business, career counseling, student development, higher education, or related field is required.

Proven presentation and facilitation skills that enable effective, influential communication with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, alumni and business community are vital to this position.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • One to three years' experience working in an academic institution of higher education is preferred.
  • Experience with career development programming, employer relations, college internships, job placement, and career readiness for undergraduate students is preferred.
  • Direct knowledge of the business industry and understanding of desired competencies for business occupations is strongly preferred.
  • The candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to receive instruction for growth in these areas.
  • Attention to detail, task orientation and the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to achieve institutional goals and objectives is necessary for success.
  • An ideal candidate would have coursework or demonstrated ability to foster communities.

A valid driver's license is required.
