Primary Purpose of Department | The primary purpose of Student Health is to promote and support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students, enabling them to succeed academically and personally. This is achieved through preventive care, medical treatment, mental health services and health education. |
Primary Purpose of Position | The primary purpose of this position is to support the mental health and well-being of students by providing acute and primary psychiatric are to to the student population. This includes intakes, evaluation and medicine management. |
Summary of Position Responsibilities | Perform clinical evaluations and medical assessments, prescribe medications and monitor their use in a therapeutic setting, provide consultation, collaboration, and training to the clinical staff of the Student Health Center and Counseling Center, and facilitate the processing of voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations |
Minimum Education/Experience | Requires an M.D. or D.O., completion of an ACGME accredited residency in psychiatry; eligibility for unrestricted medical license in the State of North Carolina and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license; and board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology |
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience | Experience or interest in college health and dealing with the psychological needs of young adults. Interest in providing education to the clinical staff on psychiatric issues, and at least two years of clinical experience providing general or specialty psychiatry services to individuals with mental illness. |
Necessary Certifications/Licenses | Eligibility for unrestricted medical license in the State of North Carolina and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license; and board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. |
