Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Multicultural Student Success and Resource Centers is a unit under Campus Life comprised of four centers (Upperman African American Cultural Center, Centro Hispano, Mohin-Scholz LGBTQIA Resource Center, Asian Heritage Cultural Center) dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that promotes academic success and a sense of community for UNCW students including those from diverse backgrounds. It also serves as a resource for UNCW faculty and staff related to assisting students, enabling student success, and elevating student well-being efforts. The centers work with the registered student organizations to implement a slate of programs and events that enrich campus life, foster student opportunities, and promote student success. Through collaboration and student engagement, the Multicultural Student Success and Resource Centers unit aims to enhance the student experience and support the university’s mission of academic success.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Campus Life, the Director of Multicultural Student Success and Resource Centers is essential in setting the vision for the unit, supervising a coordinator assigned to staff each center, and developing a slate of programs and initiatives in collaboration with campus partners that support student success and well-being, enhance the student experience, and connect them to broader campus resources. The director serves as a liaison to and support for registered student organizations in implementing student-led multicultural programming.
This position requires the ability to work flexible hours which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
- At least three years of experience working with multicultural students in a higher education or community setting.
- Experience supervising staff and oversight of fiscal management of a department or program unit.
- Demonstrated success in connecting with and advocating for all students across racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic and other identities, while navigating and mediating competing priorities and needs.

Required Certifications or Licensures none Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Campus Life department supports student engagement and provides programming to enhance out-of-classroom learning and elevate student success. Based on the philosophy that learning is not confined to the classroom but is constant and on-going, the mission of the department is to facilitate the educational process and aid in student development. Campus Life provides a rich learning and leadership laboratory for student growth, and an arena for the development of cultural, social, and interpersonal skills. This is accomplished through the administration of the Fisher Student Center, the Fisher Student Union, Burney Center, and Warwick Center, as well as the programs and services housed within those buildings. Campus Life provides guidance and resources to students, student leaders, and registered student organizations and serves as the central point of campus regarding leadership, student activities, and organizations.
